Sony A5100 Flash sync test

Multiport cable sync with both cameras on auto with the popup flash enabled on both. You can see a slight flash miss sync by the duplicated edge of the fan blade. The fan was running.

With the flash delay, when shooting at 1/160th with my a5100 rig, I get a similar band caused by the shutters, only the bands are in the identical location on both cameras. I wonder if this could be used to measure shutter synchronization?

Yeah, this dark band showed up on all the test shots I took. As you say it's due to the left flash turning off before the rolling shutter on the right has captured the full frame. This is still much better flash sync than I had expected. These test were done in response to a thread in the 3D forum. Timo has designed a flash delay circuit that would allow you to refine the sync.

Sure the blades are doubled, but the darker area at the bottom of the right image is far more visible, suggesting that the right sensor was still exposing when the left flash turned black.
