This statue was submerged on Anchieta Island by 200 divers gathered by the Association of Diving Operators of Ubatuba in 1997, the year of his death. After 20 years, in 2017, the monument in honor of the oceanographer was removed from the bottom of the sea to be restored. Due to the action of the sea, part of the feature was unrecognizable. From there, the sculptor Fábio Souza carried out the restoration process, under the curatorship of Francisco Rosa, leaving half preserved and the other part restored.
All the work was carried out jointly with the Ubatuba Aquarium, Ubatuba City Hall, Ubatuba Diving Operators Association, Anchieta Island State Park and the sculptor Fábio Souza with his team. A new statue will be placed on Anchieta Island and, together with the one in the square, will stand as a tribute and thanks to those who left a legacy of defense and conservation of the marine world.
