NZ Endemic Bird. The youngsters fly to Southern Australia all on their own when they become teenagers. A few years later, they return to Northern NZ to nest.
We had a strong wind in NZ and this bird was blown off course, then hit by a car and ended up in my native bird rescue. I hand fed it and cared for it but in the end, the Vet had to put it down as it wasn’t getting any better and could not fly. Had to buy “fresh, unfrozen” sea fish for it so it got a bit expensive to keep.
