These gigantic metallic pylons are used to transport electricity. As you can see with their very large insulators, the lines transport very high voltage (here 400kV). Such high voltages are used to transport a tremendous quantity of power with low loss but are very dangerous even without touching the wires since e.g. arcs can form through the air if you are a few tens of centimeter away. Therefore, they are only used for main lines for example between production centrals and distributions sites, then the electricity is split into multiple lines with lower tension because they support less charge and so on until domestic network.
